Home Up On Arrival Registration

Registration

You will have to register with the following authorities which is mandatory. For any official work it is highly recommended to take the original documents along. You never know when you may need them. By default, never leave your accomodation without the Passport. You may have to produce it to prove your identity to the police.

Meldebehörde/ Government Registration Office

With every change you have to register, unregister or update the registration office with your latest contact address. The Government uses this address to communicate with you. Dont forget to carry the Passport & Accomodation rental contract. Fill the appropriate registration form & submit it at the office.

At the same time collect what is called the Lohnsteuer Karte (Income tax card). You will need to give this to your employer either for part time work or full time.

Registration at University

You finally made it to the University in Germany. First & foremost you will have to register with the University. Ask at the administrative office & you will be guided. Post registration you will be given "Immatrikulation Bescheinigung". This is the Enrollment Certificate. You will have to produce this upon demand for almost everything (which includes for applying to seek Residence Permit) to prove that you are student.
